Singer 7258 Sewing Machine Review, All You Need to Know

My Mum has been sewing for as long as I can remember.  She is always being asked to help out with repairing or altering various random items.  A recent repair left her with a broken needle case.  This caused her a dilemma, the sewing machine is now ancient at over 20 years old so she had to decide if it was worth getting it repaired or just cut her losses & buy a new one.

To lend a helping hand I started to check a few models out online & came across the Singer 7258 Stylist sewing machine.

Whatever your interests or reason for using a sewing machine the Singer 7258 with its great choice of stitch options seems to me to be a good choice.

If you enjoy quilting, keeping up with the latest fashions or home furnishings here are some of the features

Large variety of stitches at your fingertips with the touch of a buttonThe width, length & tension settings are automaticIt has never been easier to create buttonholes, it is a one step process with 6 styles to choose from.  The button hole is sewn in the same direction on either side, this ensures it is balanced & makes for a very neat finish.

Mums eyesight is not what it was so as the needle threader is automatic & even threads the eye of the needle for you, the benefits of this machine for her were beginning to stack up.

As far as bobbins go there are two main types, the front loading variety usually fit into a separate case that you remove from the machine.

The Singer 7258 has a top loading system that simply drops into the space underneath the foot.  It has a clear cover which means that you can check how much thread is left.  This is useful as many a time I have started a fresh seam only to have the thread run out halfway through.

The manufacturer claims the bobbin system is jam-proof due to its magnet-type vertical axis rotating hook, & I have to say that I couldn't find any negative comments, in-fact many say it is very easy to work with.

Before I rushed to the phone to report I had found the answer to her problem, just a few more taps on the keyboard were needed to check out other customers comments.

Now being a glass half full kind of gal I'll deal with the positives first.

The general consensus seems to be that this sewing machine is

Quiet & sturdy helped by the fact that it has a frame made from steel, not plastic unlike some other machines.  The stitches are easy to program, making it suitable for experienced sewers as well as novices. For the beginner it has the added benefit of an easy to follow manual that won't take ages to trawl through every time you hit a challenge.

The Singer 7258 has a lot going for it, on the negative side

Some may find the work area a little small when working on large projects as this model is a little smaller than some measuring 15 x 7.5 x 12 inches. This does however make it a little lighter than some of its competitors as it weighs just under 15 pounds, great if you are going to need to move it around. The case it comes with is a very flimsy plastic cover, but that can easily be fixed by purchasing an inexpensive hard carry case.

In my opinion all in all for the price range this machine falls into, I think the positives far outweigh the negatives.  Now I think I'm ready to make that call.
